Climate Change Adaptation Project and Burullus Power Plant Join Forces to Promote Climate Change Awareness and Environmental Preservation
Continuing its community awareness campaign launched under the patronage of H. E. Prof. Dr.Hani Sewilam, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, the Climate Change Adaptation Project for coastal governorates where protection works have been implemented, aims to raise public awareness of the state's efforts to address the impacts of climate change on the Nile Delta and the northern coast.

In this context, the Climate Change Adaptation Project and the Burullus Power Plant raised the slogan "Awareness of Climate Change and Environmental Preservation" in a community awareness workshop for the plant's staff. The workshop highlighted the Egyptian state's diligent efforts to address climate change challenges and protect natural resources. The company also presented a comprehensive overview of its role in supporting environmental preservation efforts and how sustainability standards are integrated into the design and construction of its plants.

Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Ali, Executive Director of the project, emphasized the importance of community partnerships in achieving the project's awareness objectives, noting that the Burullus Power Company is a strategic partner in this regard. He added that the project aims to raise awareness among all segments of society about the importance of adapting to climate change through a series of seminars and training workshops in various coastal governorates.

Engineer Amr Bakir, Director of Electricity at the plant in the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, stated that the Climate Change Adaptation Project is a pioneering project due to its sustainable impacts on protecting citizens and infrastructure in the governorate. He commended the awareness raised by the project team and the need for such awareness in all state projects and efforts at all levels due to its positive impact on citizens and their sense of belonging.

Engineer Moataz Abady, Environment Manager at Siemens, indicated that the Climate Change Adaptation Project primarily relies on building human thought and changing perspectives on work mechanisms to achieve optimal performance at both professional and personal levels, contributing positively to the Egyptian work system. "Moataz" stated that the Burullus Power Plant is one of the pillars of the basic infrastructure and one of the most important national projects of the state that were included in the project's protection works in Kafr El Sheikh Governorate, and that it produces 7.5% of the total electricity produced in Egypt at a cost of approximately 2 billion euros.

Dr. Mohamed El-Genzouri, Director of Environmental Affairs in the governorate and a climate ambassador for the project, pointed out that the project's climate ambassadors program has had a significant positive impact on enhancing the technical and personal capacities of employees of entities concerned with coastal zone management, and that it is a pioneering experience that should be generalized to all Egyptian projects.

Hassan Gabr Allah, the project's media coordinator, emphasized that this workshop is the second of its kind in a series of awareness activities that the project intends to implement in the coming period, stressing the importance of continuous communication with the local community to build an effective partnership that contributes to achieving the goals of sustainable development.

It is worth noting that the Climate Change Adaptation Project has achieved significant progress in protecting 69 kilometers of the Delta coast in the governorates of Kafr El Sheikh, Dakahlia, Beheira, New Damietta, and Port Said using environmentally friendly and low-cost techniques implemented in cooperation between the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, the United Nations Development Programme, and the Egyptian General Authority for Coastal Protection, with funding from the Green Climate Fund.
