Continuing the community awareness campaign launched under the patronage of His Excellency Professor Dr. Hani Sewilam, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, through the project "Enhancing Adaptation to Climate Change" for coastal governorates where the project has implemented protection works,

His Excellency Professor Dr. Ayman El-Shehaby, Governor of Damietta, received in his office today Dr. Mohamed Ahmed, Executive Director of the Project for Enhancing Adaptation to Climate Change in the Delta and Coastal Region, Mr. Hassan Gabrallah El-Tayeb, the project's media coordinator, and representatives of the Egyptian Public Authority for Shore Protection, namely Engineer Nasser Sayed Ahmed Ibrahim, General Manager of the General Administration for Implementation and Maintenance of the Eastern Delta in Port Said, Engineer Aliaa Mohamed Ahmed Hassan, Irrigation Inspector at the General Administration for Shore Protection in Port Said, and Engineer Mohamed Mohamed Kamal El-Daly, General Director of Environment in the Governorate.

The meeting addressed the latest developments related to the project. During the meeting, the launch of an awareness week targeting various segments of society in Damietta Governorate was also announced, with the aim of raising awareness about the impacts of climate change in general, and its impact on the coasts of the Nile Delta and the northern coast in particular. The awareness week also aims to highlight the efforts made by the Egyptian state to confront the effects of climate change and preserve coastal areas due to their great importance and their role as a significant source of national income.

In this context, Dr. Mohamed Ahmed, the Executive Director of the project, pointed out that the West Damietta New Power Plant was the first station for awareness-raising activities during the week in the governorate. His Excellency and the project team, along with climate ambassadors, met in an awareness and introductory seminar for the plant's staff, during which the Egyptian state's intensive efforts to confront the challenges of climate change and protect natural resources were reviewed.

For his part, Engineer Mohamed Mohamed Kamal El-Daly, Director of Environmental Affairs in the Governorate and the project's climate ambassador, stressed the significant positive impact of the climate ambassadors program in raising the capacities of employees of the authorities concerned with managing coastal areas, both technically and personally, noting that this pioneering experience deserves to be generalized to all Egyptian projects.

Mr. Hassan Gabrallah, the project's media coordinator, explained that this seminar comes within the framework of the launch of a comprehensive awareness plan in the governorate targeting various segments of society, especially companies and entities located within the scope of the project's protection works in the governorate, such as the West Damietta Electricity Plant, the Gas Company, and cafe owners, in addition to students of Damietta University, the City's Jihad, and the Medical Administration.
It is worth mentioning that the project to enhance adaptation to climate change has achieved a significant accomplishment in protecting 69 kilometers of the Delta coasts in the governorates of Kafr El-Sheikh, Dakahlia, Beheira, New Damietta, and Port Said, using environmentally friendly and low-cost technologies, and through a partnership and cooperation between the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and the United Nations Development Programme, implemented by the Egyptian Public Authority for Shore Protection, and funded by the Green Climate Fund.
