"Building a Human and Knowledge Shield".. The Climate Change Adaptation Project Announces the Results of the Community Initiatives Competition to Institutionalize the Culture of Integration
In a step reflecting the Egyptian state's commitment to protecting its coasts and natural resources, and under the patronage of the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, the management of the project "Enhancing Climate Change Adaptation in the North Coast and Nile Delta Regions in Egypt" – implemented in cooperation between the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) – has announced the results of the "Best Initiative for Spreading the Culture of Integration" competition.
These initiatives are of paramount importance as they represent the "first line of defense" and the social component complementing the engineering works executed by the project to protect 69 km of coastline. The ambassadors submitted eighteen collective and individual initiatives featuring pioneering ideas to spread the culture of integration, such as:
Institutional Initiatives: Such as "Planning for Climate," aimed at integrating the climate dimension into urban planning.
Field Initiatives: Such as "Coast Guardian" in Damietta to create a human knowledge shield, and "The Green Street" in Alexandria for the knowledge empowerment of the most vulnerable groups.
Creative Initiatives: Such as "The Sea Tells Tales" and "Diary of an Underwater City," which utilize drama and art to raise community awareness.
In this regard, the project management is pleased to announce the results of the "Culture of Integration" initiatives competition, submitted by a number of project ambassadors, whether collectively or individually. We truly enjoyed reading all eighteen initiatives received by the project.
To ensure neutrality and fairness in selecting the winning initiatives, the project management formed a technical committee that studied and analyzed all eighteen submissions. This included five collective initiatives (two winners selected) and thirteen individual initiatives (four winners selected). The evaluation was conducted based on rigorous criteria to ensure the selection of the most innovative and actionable ideas. The results are as follows:
First: Collective Initiatives
First Place: "Our Environment is Our Responsibility... Adaptation is Our Path" (Dakahlia Governorate).
Second Place: "Enhancing Local Unit Capacities" (Ministry of Local Development).
Second: Individual Initiatives
First Place: "Climate Ambassadors: The Future Generation" (Ms. Asmaa Gharbia – Port Said) and "Naseej" (Dr. Hoda Ibrahim – Port Said).
Second Place: "Safe Coast, Sustainable Health" (Dr. Sara Abdel Fattah and Dr. Dawlat Ezzat – Matrouh).
Third Place: "Organizing a Competition for Climate Change Risk Awareness" (Eng. Amal Al-Khalili – North Sinai).
The project management will invite the winners to be honored and receive their awards during the upcoming training session for the fourth phase of Climate Ambassadors, God willing.
The project management extends its gratitude and appreciation to everyone who participated and put effort into the study and planning of all submitted initiatives. We emphasize that this competition is a recurring, sustainable approach; therefore, the opportunity remains for those who did not win this time to join us in future rounds as we continue our joint journey in protecting the Nile Delta and the North Coast.
With the sincere regards of the Climate Change Adaptation Project team.
