Matrouh Holds Intensive Workshop on Coastal Crisis and Disaster Management
In a move to enhance Matrouh Governorate's capacity to face the growing challenges posed by climate change, the governorate held a training workshop chaired by Major General Khaled Shouaib, Governor of Matrouh, for members of the Integrated Coastal Zone Management Committee and representatives from Alexandria Governorate, in the presence of a group of experts and officials.
The workshop aimed to build the participants' capacity to manage crises and disasters that coastal areas may face, especially in light of the accelerating climate changes. The workshop discussed ways to develop a comprehensive strategic plan to address these challenges and to benefit from the experiences and lessons learned from previous crises, such as the floods that affected some areas of the governorate.
The Governor of Matrouh emphasized the importance of being prepared to face climate challenges, stressing the need to develop comprehensive emergency plans that suit the nature and geographical conditions of the governorate. He also highlighted the importance of benefiting from international and regional expertise in this field.
Dr. Yasser El-Komy, the project's expert in strategic planning and governance, affirmed that this workshop comes within the framework of implementing the second component of the Integrated Coastal Zone Management Plan, which aims to build the governorate's capacity to adapt to climate change and protect coastal areas.
The workshop was attended by city heads, heads and directors of the concerned executive and service sectors, civil defense in the governorate, and Engineer Hossam El-Din Hafny, the project's climate ambassador in Matrouh.
