On August 10, 2026, as part of the activities of the “Enhancing Climate Change Adaptation and Supporting Sustainable Development” project, and in connection with exploring the use of solar energy to operate fish farms as part of the proposed projects, and in implementation of the directives of H.E. Prof. Dr. Hani Sewilam, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, and Eng. Ibrahim Mekki, Governor of Kafr El Sheikh, Major General Ahmed Habib, Assistant Secretary-General of the Governorate, held a meeting today, Monday, to follow up on the implementation procedures for the second phase of local community development projects.
These projects are supported by the Enhancing Climate Change Adaptation in the Nile Delta and North Coast (ECCADP) project in Kafr El Sheikh Governorate, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Egyptian Food Bank, based on the applications submitted by beneficiaries.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Mohamed El-Ganzouri, Director of the Environmental Affairs Department at the Governorate; Dr. Taher Othman, representative of the Climate Change Adaptation Project; Dr. Moharam Fouad and Mr. Ahmed Mamdouh from the Egyptian Food Bank; as well as a number of senior officials from Kafr El Sheikh Governorate.
The meeting included a review of the application forms submitted by beneficiaries seeking to benefit from the proposed projects, as well as an examination of the submitted applications, in preparation for taking the necessary measures in accordance with the applicable technical and environmental criteria.
The meeting also discussed the feasibility of supplying fish farms with solar energy systems, which would contribute to promoting the use of clean energy sources, reducing operating costs, and enhancing the capacity of productive activities to adapt to the impacts of climate change.
The Governor of Kafr El Sheikh emphasized the importance of selecting projects that are the most feasible and practical to implement, in order to maximize the benefits for citizens, strengthen the ability of local communities to cope with climate change, and support projects that generate sustainable economic, environmental, and social benefits for the people of Kafr El Sheikh Governorate.
