In a field visit to Damiat New City, a delegation from the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) commended the unique protection works of the project to enhance climate change adaptation in the Nile Delta and the northern coast in the governorate. These works were implemented in cooperation between the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, the United Nations Development Programme, and the Egyptian General Authority for Coastal Protection, with funding from the Green Climate Fund.

Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Ali, Executive Director of the project, welcomed the delegation, which included Dr. Ahmed Al-Zargawi and Dr. Nermin El-Dessouky from UN-Habitat, and Khadija Hafez and Tarneem Ashoush from UNDP.

The UN delegation expressed its admiration for the innovative natural techniques used in the project, which combine high efficiency in protecting the coast from the risk of sea flooding with low cost and environmental sustainability.

Ali indicated that this visit comes within the framework of strengthening cooperation between UN entities in Egypt to provide more support to the Egyptian government's efforts towards sustainable development.

The delegation also praised the pilot project to rehabilitate the protection site and transform it into a civilized walkway that combines natural beauty with social and environmental dimensions, where a variety of plants were used to enhance biodiversity and improve the quality of life in the area.

Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Ali stressed the importance of generalizing this successful model to other Delta coasts, affirming Egypt's commitment to enhancing its efforts in addressing climate challenges and restoring the ecological balance in coastal areas.
