Ain Sokhna Workshop Explores Challenges and Adaptation Pathways for Climate-Resilient Development in Egypt
In the context of confronting climate change and addressing its effects on various life activities, a workshop is being held in Ain Sokhna from February 26 to 29, 2024 under the title Join us in the Egyptian Sea Level Rise Policy Hackathon The workshop is a collaboration between the JACAR project and the International Committee on Deltas, Coasts and Islands. The workshop was opened by Dr. Alaa El-Din Abdeen, Vice President of the National Center for Research Plan Affairs, on behalf of Dr. Sherif Mohamed, President of the Center, with the participation of Eng. Walid Haqiqi, Head of the Planning Sector, Dr. Mohamed Ahmed, Executive Director of the Strengthening Climate Change Adaptation Project in the North Coast and Delta Region, and Dr. Mohamed Youssef, Regional Director for Egypt from Deltas. The workshop explored the challenges and adaptation pathways for climate-resilient social and economic development in the Nile Delta and the Egyptian coast in light of rapid economic growth and accelerated sea level rise. The workshop was attended by the project team and a number of experts specialized in various fields to discuss the impacts of sea level rise on water resources, agriculture, environment and society, and to explore mitigation and adaptation options.
