As part of Egypt’s ongoing efforts to address climate change challenges, the Climate Change Adaptation Project in the Nile Delta and the Northern Coast has made significant progress over the past week.

Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Ali, the project’s executive director, announced the installation of two new sea level monitoring stations in the ports of Damietta and Burullus. These stations, part of the integrated coastal zone management plan, will provide real-time data on sea levels, enabling swift and effective decision-making to mitigate the impacts of climate change on Egypt’s coastline.

Ali added that these efforts are part of establishing a comprehensive national monitoring system for marine, coastal, and terrestrial phenomena in the Northern Coast and Nile Delta regions. Coupled with a weather forecasting system, this network will provide timely and accurate information to decision-makers, enabling them to take the necessary preventive measures to protect Egypt’s coastline from the effects of climate change.

It is worth noting that the Climate Change Adaptation Project in the Nile Delta and the Northern Coast has successfully protected 69 kilometers of the delta and coastline from the risk of sea flooding through cooperation between the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, the United Nations Development Programme, and the Egyptian General Authority for Coastal Protection, with funding from the Green Climate Fund.
