Egypt protects "one-third" of the Nile Delta with technologies that rely on natural solutions to confront the challenges of climate change.

In a pioneering and strategic move to protect one of the world's most vital natural and historical resources, the Arab Republic of Egypt is intensifying its efforts to shield the Nile Delta from the risk of submersion by seawater. This endeavor relies on nature-based solutions and innovative, low-cost technologies. The project serves as a global model for climate change adaptation, underscoring Egypt's commitment to sustainability and safeguarding future generations.

Crucial Protection for the Delta's Future

The Nile Delta is the lifeline for millions of Egyptians, a reservoir of biodiversity, and home to fertile agricultural lands. With increasing challenges stemming from climate change, such as rising sea levels and coastal erosion, immediate and sustainable action has become imperative. The current project, implemented in close collaboration between the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and international donor entities, focuses on protecting over 69 kilometers of the most vulnerable coastlines in strategic governorates like Port Said, Damietta, Dakahlia, Kafr El Sheikh, and Beheira.
