Matrouh, Egypt - Major General Khalid Shoaib, Governor of Matrouh, today attended the first meeting of the Integrated Coastal Zone Management Committee, which was formed within the framework of the project Enhancing Climate Change Adaptation in the North Coast and Nile Delta Regions in Egypt to implement the Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt Vision 2030. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Ali, Executive Director of the Climate Change Adaptation Enhancement Project, Dr. Yossri El-Khoumy, Expert in Strategic Planning and Governance, Engineer Hussein El Sennini, Assistant Secretary-General and Major General Dr. Amon Mortada, Chairman of the West North Coast Development Authority, Engineer Hisham Hafni, Director of the GIS Utility Networks Center, the Climate Ambassador of the Governorate, city heads, undersecretaries of ministries, directors of directorates and departments concerned in the governorate, in the Egypt Public Library Hall in Matrouh. Major General Khalid Shoaib, Governor of Matrouh, praised the interest and support of the political leadership and the concerted efforts of state agencies in dealing with the climate file and preserving the environment, especially with the climate changes we are witnessing, stressing the synergy of efforts and coordination of measures taken by the Egyptian state under the support, patronage, and directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to confront climate change. The Governor of Matrouh stressed the importance of strengthening interaction and communication between the participants and exchanging experiences and opinions on ways to enhance adaptation to climate change, the impact of which is increasing day after day and the concerns it raises for all countries of the world. He also discussed how to deal with this change to reduce its impact on our lives, preserving the resources and capabilities available to us and for future generations.

Successive Meetings of Integrated Management Committees in Coastal Governorates Yield Plan Activities The first meeting of the Integrated Coastal Zone Management Committee in Beheira Governorate was held last Sunday, May 12th, at the Public Library in Damanhour City. The meeting was chaired by Major General Mohamed Shawky, First Deputy Undersecretary of State - Secretary-General of Beheira Governorate, and was attended by the project team and representatives of bodies and entities concerned with coastal zone management. Dr. Mohamed Ahmed, Project Manager, briefed the committee members on the project's activities and achievements, which included the protection measures implemented in areas most vulnerable to flooding by seawater due to climate change (Kafr El Sheikh - Beheira - Dakahlia - Damietta New - Port Said). He also reviewed the project's vision for integrated coastal zone management, which aims to manage the Mediterranean coast scientifically, taking into account all economic and social dimensions of coastal areas to achieve a safe and stable environment for investment and resilience in the face of ongoing climate change. Dr. Yasser Khoumy, Strategic and Governance Expert for the project, reviewed the legal texts, identified the roles of the relevant authorities according to the texts, and clarified the challenges and opportunities facing integrated coastal zone management: These include combating climate and disaster risks, national macroeconomic priorities, and raising community awareness. The meeting concluded with the importance of continuous and effective coordination to develop a strategic framework to avoid the potential risks resulting from accelerating climate change in recent times. On the other hand, there is a need to develop specialized awareness programs for citizens in this regard.

Alexandria, Egypt - On Thursday, May 9, 2024, Major General Mohamed El Shareef, Governor of Alexandria, held the first meeting of the Integrated Coastal Zone Management Committee. The committee was formed by the Governor to oversee projects to protect Alexandria Governorate from climate change within the framework of the project Enhancing Climate Change Adaptation in the North Coast and Nile Delta Regions in Egypt and in implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt Vision 2030. Major General El-Sharif praised all the efforts, steps, and procedures taken by the Egyptian state under the support, care, and directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to confront climate change, which all countries are suffering from. He pointed out that Alexandria Governorate is one of the first governorates to pay great attention to the issue of climate change, noting that Alexandria is one of the cities most exposed to and affected by climate change, which is what made the world interested in Alexandria and in combating the negative effects of climate change.
